Name: Scott Brandon

Role: Judge

Scott made the tree-change from Melbourne to the small town of Bright in North East Victoria in 2002 to raise his family and enjoy life amongst the mountains. He soon realised that there were opportunities to improve the experience in the town for visitors from the city, and so made his first foray into hospitality (and unknowingly also tourism!) by opening the local produce store and café Food Wine Friends with his wife in early 2003.

The move to Bright also introduced Scott to the art of brewing beer, with weekly home brewing meets eventually leading to the concept of a craft brewery for the town. In 2005 the concept became a reality and Scott co-founded Bright Brewery with his wife and two friends. By 2006 they had purchased a site in town on the Great Alpine Road overlooking the Ovens River and built a small brewery with a beautiful outdoor beer garden, creating the perfect place to wind down after a day of outdoor adventures.

In 2008 Scott was instrumental in the development of the High Country Brewery Trail, a collaborative effort among the region’s breweries and Tourism North East to promote the area as a destination of interest, creating the first region-wide brewery trail in the country and still a great success to this day.

An active member of the Bright and District Chamber of Commerce, Scott was elected President from 2011 to 2013. During this period Scott was also involved in founding Alpine Community Plantations Inc (ACP) as a board member from 2012-2014, an organisation to facilitate the recreational use of the pine plantations around Bright, particularly to assist the development of a mountain bike park.

Bright Brewery has continued to grow and improve over the years, with the major addition of a restaurant and bar in 2012, and off-site production brewery in 2017. The Victorian Tourism Awards provided a valuable benchmark throughout this growth with Bright Brewery winning Silver in 2015 and 2016, and Gold from 2017 through 2019 (and entering the Hall of Fame).
