Name: Lucy Couper
Lucy has 25 years experience working in tourism, with a brief sojourn in international development. She believes the cultural exchanges that take place during travel open the world to tolerance and understanding. Lucy is a keen traveller herself, having recently travelled to Egypt and Jordan.
After finishing a Social Sciences degree, Lucy moved to Indonesia to work as a group leader for Intrepid Travel. Working during its fledgling years was an exciting time to be a part of the Intrepid team. After three years working in Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam she moved back to the Melbourne office where she excelled in the role of Operations Manager for Indonesia, Malaysia/Borneo, The Philippines and Japan. Lucy was also instrumental in developing Human Resources initiatives at Intrepid Travel in their early days.
After moving to Phillip Island in 2004, Lucy became a Ranger at the Phillip Island Nature Parks working at the famous Penguin Parade and leading education tours at many Phillip Island attractions. She has now been at the Phillip Island Visitor Information Centre for 11 years, where she believes building relationships with local tourism operators is paramount to success. In 2015, 2016 and 2017 Lucy was lead writer on the RACV Victorian Tourism Award submissions for the Phillip Island and Bass Coast Visitor Information Centre Network, resulting in two Gold wins and one Silver placing. Lucy believes the process of writing a submission compels businesses to improve their operations. She knows first-hand the challenges involved in writing a winning submission and has supported local Phillip Island businesses through the process. Lucy is honoured to be given the opportunity to be a part of the judging panel for the first time this year.
