Name: Dwight Harrison
Dwight has worked in the airline and travel industry for over 25 years. Starting his career with Qantas gave him excellent grounding, insights and opportunities to work across many divisions of the company. He was part of the team that formed Qantas Holidays and look after all commercial functions, retail and reservations. Dwight was also the Regional Manager for Qantas GSA running Air Pacific which is now Fiji Airways.
After 14 years at Qantas, Dwight moved into shipping, becoming the Commercial Manager at Spirit of Tasmania responsible for all commercial strategies, distribution and development. He was then approached by a syndicate to go back into airlines and help develop and launch Regional Express Airlines “REX”, from the collapse of Ansett and by merging Kendell and Hazelton Airlines.
After a number of years at REX, Dwight moved into Travel Technology to further develop his skills in this area. Travelport supplies travel technology , online and mid office systems to large travel networks such as Flight Centre, Helloworld and Webjet. But Dwight’s passion laid in the airline game.
That’s when Dwight joined Qatar Airways as the Head of Commercial for Australia. Dwight drove Qatar’s brand and market share launching Melbourne, Perth and Sydney, to then became Qatar Airways Acting Country Manager.
Following Qatar Airways, Dwight joined Virgin Australia (VA) as Virgin Blue became VA. He assisted in the transformation and growth of VA managing a large commercial portfolio. Dwight had a weekly commute to Brisbane for this role and after a number of years away from his young family, he decided to base himself back in Melbourne.
Dwight secured a position at Melbourne Airport as Vice President of Aviation Development, managing the commercial airline, route and market development with major carriers such as Qantas, Jetstar, Virgin Australia and Tigerair. He is also involved with securing new international airlines into Melbourne, most recently Air Canada, LATAM, Japan Airlines, Sri Lankan Airlines, Xiamen Airlines, Malindo and Cebu-Pacific.
Dwight is a passionate Melbournian – loves and believes Victoria is the best state. He has been a member of the Portsea Surf Life Saving Club for the past 39 years. He thinks the Victorian Tourism industry is exceptional and he is wanting to use his success, skills, knowledge, experience and relationships to further assist the industry
