Name: Carmen Smith
Carmen has worked in the hospitality, leisure and tourism industry for over 25 years. In her early career, she was National Marketing Manager at Rydges Hotel Group/Bobby McGee’s Entertainment Lounges before moving to the Tatts Pokies Group in various marketing roles over five years, with oversight across 280 hotels and clubs.
She spent 13 years in the Middle East (Qatar), Asia and Europe managing Marketing functions for major events Doha 2006 Asian and West Asian Games, FIFA World Cup Bid, 2022 FIFA World Cup Qatar and other projects of national significance.
During this period, she was Chair of Key Domestic Stakeholders for Brand Qatar, working with Qatar Tourism Authority, Qatar Airways, Katara Cultural Village, Al Jazeera and other notable authorities.
In 2017, Carmen repatriated to Australia and joined Visit Victoria as Head of International Markets, responsible for $8B of inbound tourism out of 11 international offices. She was a Board Member of the Victoria Trade and Investment Office China before moving Moonee Valley Racing Club as General Manager of Marketing, Media and Communications across Racing, Hospitality and Property Divisions.
She has been a juror for Cannes Lion Awards and is the recipient of 36 international marketing awards.
These days Carmen is working in Commercial Property Private Equity, and can find her at the weekends on the farm in regional Glenlyon, project managing the design and build of a home extension; knee-deep in landscaping jobs with her dog (Walter), wandering around nurseries or horse riding through the nearby State Forests.
