Business excellence to be celebrated at 2016 RACV Victorian Tourism Awards Gala Ceremony
The Victoria Tourism Industry Council (VTIC) is gearing up to celebrate the 2016 RACV Victorian Tourism Awards on Thursday 24 November at The Palladium, Crown. In its 32nd year, the Gala Ceremony is a prestigious night of nights for the tourism and events industry which currently employs 210,000 people, half in regional locations, and generates $21.7 billion per year for the State’s economy. The Awards acknowledge excellence among businesses and outstanding individuals across 30 categories.
The awards program gives operators the opportunity to evaluate their level of expertise and service, pushing for exceptional standards year on year. First-time entrant in 2015, Damian Sandercock of Piper Street Food Co, who won Silver for New Business, commented; “The awards submission process was terrific for making you pull apart your business, revisit your goals and refocus on telling a uniquely Victorian story. Awards like this really help us to leverage that brand further afield.”
An independent judging panel of 31 industry leaders are currently reviewing 132 entries which includes a submission assessment and a site visit verification process. Winners of the first 25 categories at the Victorian Tourism Awards automatically enter the Qantas Australian Tourism Awards for the chance to be judged at a National level. At a state level, Victoria profiles excellence in categories for Local Government Tourism, Tourism and Education Training and three categories that recognise individuals.
This year’s Gala ceremony will be hosted by one of Australia’s favourite comedians, Tommy Little, who will entertain 1,000 guests along with a variety of entertainment and live music. Catering will be provided by leading Crown Melbourne chefs matched with wine and beer from tourism award-winning Pizzini Wines and Bright Brewery.
