About the Tourism Awards

For over 30 years the Victorian Tourism Awards have showcased and recognised the state’s leaders in tourism excellence. The Awards encourage businesses to meet and strive to exceed industry standards. The awards play an integral role in rewarding business excellence, innovation, industry professionalism and collaboration.

First established by the Federal Government in 1985, the Australian Tourism Awards are now owned and managed by Australian Tourism Awards Inc.

As a national program, each State and Territory is licensed to run the Awards in the state/territory level.  Since 2015, the Victoria Tourism Industry Council has been contracted by Visit Victoria to manage the Awards in Victoria.

At the national level, the program is managed by the Australian Tourism Industry Council (ATIC).  Therefore, rules for entry, categories and criteria are set by ATIC for all States and Territories.

The  Victorian Tourism Awards are an online entry and site visit based competition for all tourism businesses and industry suppliers based in Victoria.

Nearly 200 entries are submitted every year across the various categories available to Victorian operators.  By entering the program, businesses and individuals show strong commitment to the pursuit of tourism excellence.

Awards are announced at the industry’s ‘night of nights’,, the annual Gala Ceremony, where around 1000 industry stakeholders from across the state gather to celebrate, network and share their success with peers and colleagues.

Winners (of categories 1 through to 25) automatically receive entry to compete at the Australian Tourism Awards.  Over 200 businesses across the country reach the prestigious status of becoming a national finalist.

Vision

Awards for industry, run by industry!

Victoria is known for delivering high quality, memorable visitor experiences, thus it is VTIC’s intention to encourage and support all entrants to ensure that they give themselves the best opportunity to succeed and to shine.

The Victorian Tourism Awards are not only about propelling Victoria’s tourism products and services, but also about strengthening and deepening relationships within the industry.

VTIC aims for this to be a positive and fulfilling experience for all involved, and view the Awards as a chance to unite as an industry and share our stories, knowledge and success with each other.

Our aspirations for the Awards program are:

  • Increase Victorian entries each year, given the size and economic value of our industry
  • Encourage a high standard of entries, giving operators the best opportunity to succeed at the state level, as well as at the national level
  • Increase exposure for the entrants ongoing
  • Attract additional partners (sponsors and media partners) providing incentives back to entrants
  • Deliver a sustainable program that continues to increase Victoria’s industry standard to visitors
  • Position Victoria as the leader of tourism excellence on a National level
