The annual Puffing Billy Great Train Race is a fun run held in the Dandenong Ranges located 40 kilometres east of Melbourne. This unique experience provides runners with the opportunity to compete against an historic Puffing Billy steam locomotive. The event is organised by the Puffing Billy Preservation Society with funds raised contributing to the maintenance of the Puffing Billy family of locomotives. The Puffing Billy Great Train Race attracted visitors to the Dandenong Ranges from Victoria and interstate including 2,785 runners and 617 family and friends. Local business partnerships benefited the community, whilst media coverage secured positive publicity for the region.
